Last weekend, I picked up my first delivery from Sweet Earth Organic Farm, a CSA I recently joined, in an effort to not only support local organic agriculture, but to take on the challenge of eating seasonal, regional and heirloom foods. This will be my first experience with a CSA and I'm looking forward to the adventures my surprise box of organic veggies will bring every week!

I chose SEOF because it is the only certified organic farm that delivers to my area in Chicago (and is actually one of few CSA's that are certified organic). I plan to leave feedback and photos, so stay tuned!

What's a CSA?
CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a relationship of mutual support and commitment between local farmers and community members who pay the farmer an annual membership fee to cover the production costs of the farm. In turn, members receive a weekly share of the harvest during the local growing season. The arrangement guarantees the farmer financial support and enables many small- to moderate-scale organic family farms to remain in business. Ultimately, CSA creates "agriculture-supported communities" where members receive a wide variety of foods harvested at their peak of ripeness, flavor and vitamin and mineral content.
